Beginning October 15, 2018, multi-factor authentication will be required for all students in order to authenticate using the University of Maryland, College Park's Central Authentication Service (CAS). Please enroll before that date. If you do not enroll by October 15, you will not be able to log into systems that use CAS authentication. Major university systems that use CAS include ELMS, Testudo, Terrapin Express, Box, MyDRL, MyUHC, and library services.

Why are we requiring this?

Strong passwords are an important part of keeping your accounts secure, but they are not enough. Last year, 81% of data breaches began due to phishing attacks or other methods of stealing passwords, so an additional layer of security is needed. With multi-factor authentication, anyone trying to access your account must provide two methods of identification:

  • Something you know, like your password
  • Something you have, like a mobile device with the Duo app, a phone that can receive voice calls, a hardware token, or a printed one-time use code
