Effective August 22, 2017, students and faculty at UMD have access to TurningPoint (clickers) mobile license subscriptions at no cost. These subscriptions provide access to interactive response technology that can be easily integrated into every learning environment. Instructors can poll students who respond via either a clicker device or by using their mobile device as a licensed “virtual clicker.”
All current students who purchased subscriptions in the past, no matter whether accounts are active or inactive, are automatically enrolled into the new enterprise license model, which enables the use of mobile devices as clickers. If required by an instructor, students will still need to purchase a physical clicker device.
In recent semesters, students and faculty members who needed to use clickers had to purchase a subscription. A UMD student proposed the funding of clicker subscriptions via the Student Technology Fee through the 2017 Student Tech Fee Proposal Initiative. The Student IT Advisory Committee approved the proposal, and from this date onward, the TurningPoint account subscriptions will be underwritten by funds from the Student Technology Fee.
For more information and details about using clickers through the new license model, please visit the Classroom Response System information in the IT service catalog. Instructions for setup and use are available in the “Here is How” section.
Visit elms.umd.edu, log in, and add the Clicker Registration link to the left-hand navigation menu in your ELMS course space. Students who are new to clickers will need to access this link to create a clicker account and obtain a free clicker subscription. Learn more about enabling the clicker registration in ELMS and get more detailed information about creating an Turning Point instructor account.
The new enterprise TurningPoint license will allow you to use the Mobile Response polling application on your mobile device or clicker. A physical clicker device, if required by an instructor, will need to be purchased at the University Book Center or the Turning Technologies online store.
